Put those old canning lids to work!

The Perfect Plant Markers From Re-Purposed Canning Lids

Create Something New

We’re full swing into winter now, with blizzards and low temps!  That also means that the canning cupboard is emptying pretty quickly.  The canning lids are piling up again, and are really getting on my nerves.

I keep a box of them in the pantry and they were spilling out over the top, screaming to be organized!  So, I humbly obeyed this week.  I went through and realized that quite a few of them were just not up to par to be used again next season.

But that frugal girl in me just couldn’t throw them out!

Make this easy melt and pour soap to give a beautiful (affordable!) gift this Christmas!

Melt And Pour Goat Milk Soap

A Christmas Tradition

I was raised in a large extended family, and every year for Christmas we try to get as many of us together as possible.  I am lucky to still live fairly close and am able to make it to most holiday events.  But so many of us live from coast to coast!  Because there are so many of us, it’s hard to give to everyone.  We draw names and we each give a large gift to one person, but my mom and I like to make something homemade each year to give to the whole family.  Since my next plans for the homestead are goats, we decided to do goat milk soap!

I love bread. It’s a fault of mine. I watch people order burgers with no bun and make pizzas with cauliflower. Even though I realize that this is for health reasons, bread is just not something that I am willing to give up. Especially sourdough bread!

Last Christmas, in my Pre-School classroom I made a simpler version of this Pine Cone Ornament with the kids and it was a huge hit! The parents loved them, and they veered away from the paper and glue ornaments that deteriorate over the years, while still just as hands on for the little ones.

How To Dry Pine Cones For Crafting

We like crafting around here! Both sides of my family are filled with dried pine conescrafty people. And one of my favorite ways to craft is by using items from nature! That was the whole theme for our wedding! Christmas is a great time to gather up a basket full of pine cones and decorate your house.
