Wendy’s Chili Copy-Cat
When I moved out my mom passed on a lot of her recipes for me to have. One of them was a copy-cat recipe for Wendy’s Chili.
Throughout the years it has been altered and tweaked to fit what we like best, so I’m not even sure what the exact original recipe was. This recipe is our only recipe for chili!
I always make it with the intention of freezing it for later, but even with only two of us it doesn’t last long. My father in-law loved it so much that one year I made up a nice recipe card and stuck it in his stocking for Christmas!
It is now known as “THE Chili Recipe!”
This recipe is extremely simple, perfect for a cool day, and made even better if you substitute the canned grocery items with home canned, like I prefer to do.
Ingredients
2 lb ground beef
1 (29 oz) can tomato sauce
1 (29 oz) can kidney beans (with the liquid)
1 (29 oz) can pinto beans (with the liquid)
1 cup onion, diced
1 (5 oz) can green chilies
1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes
2-3 tsp cumin
3 Tbsp chili powder
1 1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tsp salt
2 cups water
Directions
- Brown the ground beef and drain off the fat.
- In a large stock pot, combine all ingredients.
- Bring to a simmer over low heat.
- Cook stirring every 15 minutes for 2-3 hours.
As I said before, this recipe is very easy and is so hearty on a cold day. Pair it with some corn bread and you’re set!
